Getting good foley requires ingenuity from the people doing it. You try to find sounds to substitute for other sounds. For example, slicing an onion can be used for a punch.
Sometimes, though, the real thing is hard to duplicate.
Take a human body hitting the concrete. We threw various heavy objects around and it never sound quite right.
Finally Aaron, who was shooting some “behind the scenes” footage for us, volunteered to throw himself onto the driveway.
He did it 4 times, and it sounded great.
